Decentralization has been one of our core values since the inception of SelfKey. The token economy and identity platform are fully decentralized and open source, and we’re currently implementing decentralized governance mechanisms in order to empower our community to play an active role in the evolution of the project.
Some of the backend components that enable the function of the SelfKey wallet may be centrally controlled in order to ensure quality and ease of development, however the core of our platform is based on a smart contract architecture that is totally decentralized. Initially, some features may need to be centrally managed (e.g. the initial pool of certifiers, marketplace listing, etc.) but ultimately our goal is to fully decentralize each aspect of the network as the community grows and the proper governance mechanisms are put in place. - Carlos
